On October 7, Max made the ultimate sacrifice while serving as a combat intelligence collection soldier in the 414th Battalion of the Border Defense Corps. His bravery and dedication in the face of danger exemplify the highest ideals of service and selflessness.

A resident of Ashdod, Max’s presence brought strength and comfort to his family and friends. His contributions to his unit and his unyielding commitment to his duty reflect the remarkable character and steadfast loyalty he possessed.

Max is survived by his loving parents, his devoted grandmother, and his cherished twin sister, Michelle. As you navigate this incredibly difficult time, may you find solace in the cherished memories of Max’s remarkable life and the profound impact he had on everyone around him.

I am learning about Matan as part of a special project with Temple Sholom in Vancouver, BC Canada. Each member of our synagogue “adopted” a carved stone with the name of a fallen from October 7, both civilian and military. Over 1600 stones were carved, and each one taken home at High Holy Days, to be returned after the holder learns about the person with the name on their stone.
The stones will be placed at the base of an outdoor art installation (a granite carving in the shape of Israel) in our Temple’s memorial garden. This art installation and placement of the stones around its base will take place on Simchat Torah. I just wanted to let you know how incredibly touched I was to read about Matan and his family, and that his actions and story have reached around the world. Z”L

Please keep him in your thoughts and close to your hearts and remember that many Jews and non Jews all over the world feel your pain and daily struggles and pray for you and stand with you.
