Osher’s prowess on the soccer field brought immense joy to his countless fans and provided inspiration to fellow players and spectators alike. His father, serving as his biggest cheerleader, shared and nurtured this bond, making their presence at each game a celebration of both family and talent. Osher’s skill, determination, and the mutual love for soccer he shared with his father will remain indelible memories in the hearts of many.

As a resident of Be’er Sheva and an honorable soldier, Osher’s dedication to his team, his friends, and his nation spoke volumes about his character. He was known for his cheerful disposition, his unwavering camaraderie, and his refusal to complain, embodying the spirit of an all-around great individual.

I can only imagine the pain of losing not only a wonderful son and brother but also a devoted father and husband. I am learning about Matan as part of a special project with Temple Sholom in Vancouver, BC Canada. Each member of our synagogue “adopted” a carved stone with the name of a fallen from October 7, both civilian and military. Over 1600 stones were carved, and each one taken home at High Holy Days, to be returned after the holder learns about the person with the name on their stone.
The stones will be placed at the base of an outdoor art installation (a granite carving in the shape of Israel) in our Temple’s memorial garden. This art installation and placement of the stones around its base will take place on Simchat Torah. I just wanted to let you know how incredibly touched I was to read about Matan and his family, and that his actions and story have reached around the world. Z”L
