Sgt. Osher Chemaya
Dear Yaakov, Evelyn, Ofek, and Aline,
I am writing to express my deepest condolences on the tragic loss of your beloved Osher and his father. No words can truly capture the sorrow you must be experiencing, but I hope to offer you some measure of comfort during this heartbreaking time.
Osher’s untimely passing on October 7th, especially in such a dreadful manner, is a profound loss not only to your family but to everyone who knew him and benefited from his radiant spirit. His dedication as a soldier in the Gaza Command Center and his love for soccer showcased his multifaceted talents and his passion for everything he did.
Osher’s prowess on the soccer field brought immense joy to his countless fans and provided inspiration to fellow players and spectators alike. His father, serving as his biggest cheerleader, shared and nurtured this bond, making their presence at each game a celebration of both family and talent. Osher’s skill, determination, and the mutual love for soccer he shared with his father will remain indelible memories in the hearts of many.
As a resident of Be’er Sheva and an honorable soldier, Osher’s dedication to his team, his friends, and his nation spoke volumes about his character. He was known for his cheerful disposition, his unwavering camaraderie, and his refusal to complain, embodying the spirit of an all-around great individual.
I can only imagine the pain of losing not only a wonderful son and brother but also a devoted father and husband. Please know that the thoughts and prayers of many are with you during this time of mourning. Osher’s influence, both on and off the field, and the shared love between him and his father serve as a testament to the powerful bond of family and the enduring legacy they leave behind.
May you find solace in the cherished memories of their lives, and may their spirits provide you with strength and comfort.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Idalmis Aznay

I am learning about Matan as part of a special project with Temple Sholom in Vancouver, BC Canada. Each member of our synagogue “adopted” a carved stone with the name of a fallen from October 7, both civilian and military. Over 1600 stones were carved, and each one taken home at High Holy Days, to be returned after the holder learns about the person with the name on their stone.
The stones will be placed at the base of an outdoor art installation (a granite carving in the shape of Israel) in our Temple’s memorial garden. This art installation and placement of the stones around its base will take place on Simchat Torah. I just wanted to let you know how incredibly touched I was to read about Matan and his family, and that his actions and story have reached around the world. Z”L

Capt. Eyal Klein
Dear family and friends of Eyal, warm greetings to you all. I write again to offer my heartfelt condolences and loving thoughts on the passing of your dearly loved one who served, fought and died with honour and courage defending his beloved homeland and his people. Eyal is a noble hero of Israel, a true, loyal patriot and a valiant warrior who fought like a lion until the very end against overwhelming odds with only a few weapons at hand. Always well prepared, his water bottle provided a lifeline to his dehydrated comrades even after he was gone. His beloved memory will always bless and his light shine, he will never be forgotten. Eyal was a strong, steadfast, dutiful, dependable leader who dedicated himself wholeheartedly to serving the country he loved to the best of his ability and with professionalism and excellence in all his endeavours. He was also a loving, devoted, deeply caring son, family member and a great, true friend who was and still is very much loved and will be greatly missed. Please keep him in your thoughts and close to your hearts and remember that many Jews and non Jews all over the world feel your pain and daily struggles and pray for you and stand with you. My heart and prayers are with his beloved family, please G-d keep them safe and well. Eyal stands out amongst the best and brightest sons of Israel and a son, family member and friend to be proud of. He was someone extra special, a shining light. This lovely photo captures Eyal at his best full of the joy of life and loving the moment, he exudes goodness, kindness, warmth, sincerity, inner strength, a loving, giving nature and a radiant bright spirit, he is handsome with abundant charm. Eyal is amongst the virtuous in paradise where he smiles down on you and where you will be reunited with him one wonderful joyful day. In the meantime, may HaShem comfort, heal and strengthen you and give you peace. With much respect, very best wishes and warmest regards, Fiona McLeod of Scotland UK ❤️
