Dear Mr. and Mrs Cohen,
My name is Nora Gontownik from Engelwood New Jersey and I want to let you know I am here for you. When I read the story about your child Hadar Miriam I felt sad. Although I never met her I can tell she lit up a room with her smile and energy. As I read That she was eager to support those in need I can assure you she was happy to die helping others lives. I Just turned 12 years old and I am Jewish. My great father died a few months after Oct 7th and my teacher taught me a lesson. You die after you have completed your purpose in life. That means your daughter did hers at such a young age and you should feel proud. Reading about your daughter was truly heartwarming and I hope Hashem has helped get through this hard time.
Yours Truly: a Motiah school student Nora Gontownik,

Dear Cohen family,
I am so sorry about what happened to Hadar. She sounds like an amazing, beautiful, and very kind person. Even though I have not met Hadar I know that she was an amazing leader and daughter, and I also know that her generous heart made all of the soldiers she led so happy. I would also like you to know that even though she passed away her heart lives on with our nation.

Dear Shohat family,
I’m so sorry for your loss. You are so brave. When I read this paragraph about her, I knew that it was her family that I should write a letter to! Shira is an inspiration to me and all my friends. Her love for Israel and kindness to others is truly a motivation to me to never give up and fight to the fullest. Shira always brought light to people even in the darkest times which encouraged me to do also. We will always remember her for what she did for Bnei Yisrael and for who she was. She will never be forgotten! Am Achad Belev Achad!
Love,

Dear Aner’s Parents and Family,
I’m so sorry that you lost your son and hero. Every time I hear about the war, I think Aner the hero. I’ve wanted to join the IDF for some time now and hearing these stories especially Aner’s story, has only made me want to serve and protect the nation. Recently, I was in Israel and when we visited Har Hertzl, as we were leaving, my dad stopped me from leaving and told me, “Oscar. look, this is Aner Shapira’s grave! And I asked him if this was the Aner Shapira that saved many people’s lives in the shelter. He said yes and asked me how I knew. I told him that in my Ivrit class we learned about how this hero was murdered by these animals. Enough about me, I just wanted to share that I saw your sons grave and said a Perek of Tehillim and started crying afterwards. I cannot imagine how much pain you guys are in and will be in. I don’t know if this will work for you guys but if you feel down and miss Aner, you can always look for someone to talk to or if you have a punching bag handy, you can punch your anger away. Every day I saw 2 Perakim of Tehillim, the Mi Shebeirach LeChayaley Tzahal, and Acheinu. Everyday I think of a different hero, and most of the time I don’t know names and just think of what that person did and that they died for us. Most days I think of Aner, and everyday I think about how much he felt and what the other people in that shelter felt. And out of nowhere Aner comes and catches grenades and throws them back out. Aner is the definition of a hero without a cape. He deserves a medal for the bravery he shows and the split-second decision he made. He made the right decision to protect his country. Once again I’m so so sorry for your loss of a great hero. I will continue to Daven for Techiat HaMeiteim to happen so you and every other grieving family can see their loved one(s) again. If you want to contact me my name is Oscar I’m in seventh grade and my phone number is 201-466-1030. Contact me through Whatsapp. So Sorry😢

Dear Barzilay family,
I am so full of appreciation for Osher and her service and I don’t even know how to describe how grateful I am. She protected Israel and I will never be able to put into words how thankful so many of us are. She was an amazing person and we should all aspire to be as courageous and wonderful as she was. She has saved our country, she has saved so many lives by giving up her own and there is nothing, nothing I will ever be able to do to thank her, the brave, kind, soldier who saved so many. May her soul rise up in the world to come and may she forever be in our hearts.
Sincerely,
Ziva, from the 7th grade at the Moriah School

Dear Yahalom family,
My name is Lila Yahalom. When I saw Chen’s name I felt like I had to learn about a fellow Yahalom. I understand we are most likely not related, but I feel a connection to Chen. When I first read his story, it was so tragic. I thought, “how unfortunate that someone so dedicated and brave should die on the day they weren’t working”. Then I realized that this was a good thing. Chen got to pass on a day dedicated to what he loved most. This shows that, of course, he was strong and brave protecting our nation, but he had other hobbies as well. His story teaches anyone who listens that not every soldier was the same. They had different likes, dislikes, and personalities. So, although he passed on a day he took off, without his story, people might not understand that each soldier is their own person. May there be an aliyah for his neshama. Am Yisrael Chai, and stay strong!!!
Love,
Lila Yahalom from the Moriah School of Englewood, New Jersey

Dear family of Adar Ben Simon,
I am deeply sorry for the loss of Adar. She was a true model for those around her, and just by learning a little bit about her, I can tell that she was the joy in everyone’s day. Her actions on October 7 were truly remarkable and notable. I hope all the learning that we do at school and all the schools around the world serve as an Aliyah for her Neshama. Every day at school, we pray for both the fallen and fighting soldiers. My friend and I alternate every day, saying it for the entire middle school. The lives of the 90 soldiers she saved, are incredibly lucky that Adar saved them. I wish for your family, and for your friends, strength for these tough times.
