Looking Forward – May 2023

On this landmark 75th anniversary of the formation of the State of Israel, our community is filled with a renewed spirit for our unwavering commitment to the Jewish homeland. The land, protected by the brave young men and women of the IDF, is a testament to the enduring strength and resilience of the Jewish people.

During this time of celebration, we must take a moment to reflect on the recent observance of Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s National Memorial Day. Our community joins with families of the fallen to honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the face of conflict or terror.

The combination of celebration, along with grief over the sacrifice that it takes to realize our success, is a bold and fresh reminder of the rewards that can be realized through focused and collective action. Each of us has a vital role to play in advancing the critical mission of FIDF. We call on each other to host events, engage and inspire other community leaders, colleagues, and donors, and grow our community and deepen our relationships every day.

In this issue, we are highlighting the following:

• Our most recent mission was From Holocaust to 75 Years of Independence. Eighty FIDF supporters, along with two Holocaust survivors and a delegation of IDF officers, journeyed through Jewish history. We are honored to have been joined by David Schaecter who was granted unprecedented access to an off-limits block of Auschwitz where he had been held prisoner as a child. • As you think ahead to your summer plans and we continue to celebrate 75 years of Israel, please keep in mind our critical support of the Legacy Summer Camp program through which children and siblings of fallen soldiers are supported in adjusting to a life that has been forever transformed.
