On October 7, 2023, 24-year-old Maya Regev was taken hostage to Gaza alongside her brother, Itay Regev, from the Nova Music Festival. Maya suffered severe injuries after being shot by Hamas terrorists during the attack. While in captivity, surgeons reattached her foot, which they positioned sideways at an unnatural angle.
Maya, along with her brother Itay, was among 105 hostages freed during a weeklong truce in late November 2023. Upon returning to Israel, she underwent corrective surgery and spent nearly a year in the hospital recovering, surrounded by wounded soldiers who showed her what courage really looks like. What she found in the darkest and most joyful moments of her life has been illuminating.
In the spring of 2026, Maya was a featured guest and speaker at FIDF events. We had the privilege of sitting down with her for an intimate, in-depth conversation about the moments that shaped her journey, as she opened up to us about what comes next.
