it was such an act of courageous heroism what you did. I can’t start to imagine what good you would do for the world if you were still here.

I’ve sat with this for a while, trying to find the right words, and the truth is—I don’t think there are any that fully meet a loss like yours.
I didn’t know your son, but I find myself thinking about him, and about you, more often than I can explain. I think about the kind of young man he must have been to stand where he stood, to carry what he carried, and to give what he gave. That doesn’t come from nowhere—it comes from the home that raised him, the values you lived, and the love you gave him.
I can’t pretend to understand your pain, but I want you to know that it is not unseen. There are people, even far away, who feel the weight of what your family has lost and who carry a deep sense of gratitude for your son. I think about Israel every day, and I know that its strength is built on people like him.
More than anything, I hope you feel how much he mattered—not just in what he did, but in who he was. A son, a person who was loved, who laughed, who had a life beyond the uniform. That life, and that love, doesn’t disappear.
I’m praying for your family—for strength in moments that feel impossible, for some sense of peace when it feels out of reach, and for the memory of your son to always be a source of light, even in the darkest moments.
Your son’s life had meaning. And it continues to.
Am Yisrael chai!

Shalom. I am writing to you as a Jewish grandmother from the diaspora to express my deepest gratitude to you, your family, and your friends. You have a great hero—a Jewish hero—who fell in defense of Israel. May his/her memory be a blessing.
We have followed these painful months since October 7, witnessing what has been happening and the rise of antisemitism around the world. We believe that the only way to ensure the future of the State of Israel is to protect it—and at last, we are doing so. Even from afar, we are helping in every way we can.
Please know that you are not alone. Our hearts are with you, and we hold you in our thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow. His/her courage will never be forgotten. May you find strength, comfort, and peace.
