Legacy Camps and Travel

EVERYONE IN ISRAEL was traumatized after October 7th, but often it’s worse for children as they can’t articulate their feelings. A psychotherapist specializing in trauma said, “As a child, when you don’t experience safety, it affects your ability to relate to yourself. It affects your ability to trust your environment. Even talking with parents is difficult. It affects a child’s ability to trust adults. Children have a fear of commitment, fear of setting boundaries, fear of speaking up, fear of being seen.”

Legacy Camps Children will be hosted in three traditional summer camp locations where they will be immersed in an American summer camp experience: Philadelphia, western Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. Each camp will host 26 bereaved children ages 12 to 14 years old and 5 Israeli counselors. Special programs and events will be hosted by FIDF’s gracious funders.

Legacy Travel On the East Coast and the West Coast, generous FIDF supporters will host and provide programming and events for approximately 100 bereaved youth, ages 14 to 17 years, and 20 counselors. All the children will be accompanied by Israeli counselors who have also suffered the loss of a loved one. In addition to the supportive friendships that begin at camp and continue for years to come, the campers also spend meaningful time with a warm and welcoming host community of FIDF supporters.

Legacy Camp 2024 costs: $1.78M, which includes Legacy Camp 2024 costs: all travel, meals, and programming expenses for 278 bereaved children and 55 counselors.
