2019 FIDF Ride Israel Itinerary

The preliminary itinerary of the 2019 FIDF Ride Israel is subject to change due to IDF and security approvals, weather conditions, and other unforeseen circumstances. A finalized version of the itinerary will be published closer to departure. 

PLEASE NOTE: This ride is not recommended for beginner or untrained cyclists.  Past experience with long distance (>50 miles) and multi-day (2+ consecutive) rides is suggested. Although certain skill levels are not required, there are some challenging elements and it is highly recommended to prepare and train for the ride. There will be options along the route for bus transportation for those in need of a break. 

Non-riders are welcome!  If you don't ride but your partner does, we have SO much for you to do!  Join us!


Every morning, riders will enjoy breakfast at the hotel prior to departure for the day.  Lunches will be provided each day.  Depending on the day’s activities, there will be free time at the hotel, nightly group dinners, FIDF programming and a briefing about the following day’s route. Please note that sunrise is around 6:30am and sunset is around 5:00pm.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU OBSERVE SHABBAT: and you arrive  Friday, November 1st we will take care of your hotel and and arrange your flight to Eilat after Shabbat.

 

In addition to the mileage and maps currently on the itinerary, for those interested in additional mileage, longer distances will be provided with support every day.

DAY 1 – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER  2, 2019
 – Many of you will arrive in Tel Aviv on Saturday, November 2nd.  You will be met by our ground crew where your bike will be loaded on a truck for transport to the hotel.  You will be able to spend some time along the beautiful Mediterranean on the boardwalk in Tel Aviv.  There you will find wonderful shops and restaurants to refresh yourself after the long journey from the States.  After Shabbat, there will be a short flight from Tel Aviv to Eilat – the southernmost city in the country.  Once in Eilat, we will meet your local staff, go over details of the upcoming ride, and begin assembling and fitting bikes.

PLEASE  NOTE: If you want to arrive in Eilat before Saturday, let us know and we will arrange your flight to Eilat for you.

DAY 2/3 – SUNDAY, NOVEMBER  3/4, 2019

We have a special 2-day adventure planned for you leaving Saturday morning and returning to Eilat on Monday evening. Details for this portion of the ride are still being finalized. For more information, please call us at 216-310-4482 or email us.


DAY 4 – TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2019 – Eilat to Mitzpe Ramon  (There will be an optional early morning start for those wanting to climb out of the Bay of Eilat to the Mountains).  The rest of us will leave the hotel by bus and, transferring to the start point at the peak of Mt. Shlomo, we will follow the scenic road for the fabulous views of Eilat, Sinai, and the Negev.  We will end the ride in the area of Shizafon and then transfer to Mitzpe Ramon for lunch.  After lunch, we will head north to arrive in the early evening in Tel Aviv.

DAY 5 – WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2019 – Carmel to Caesaria – We will start our morning visiting an IDF base and then begin our ride. Passing several Kibbutzim along the way, we will ride through the Amikam Regions known at the “Tuscany of Israel”.  Them, it’s on to Caesarea, biking along the aqueduct to the ancient port.  After lunch in the Caesarea harbor we will take a short walking tour of the city that was once the capital of Judea.  Finally, we’ll transfer back to Tel Aviv for the remainder of the afternoon.

DAY 6 – THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2019 – Judean Hills – After breakfast, we will transfer out of Tel Aviv and head to the Judean Hills – these rolling roads and the great scenery, make this one of Israel’s favorite cycling regions. We will ride via the Beit Guvrin National park, and end our ride with a visit to a nearby Air Force base. From there, we will transfer back to the hotel in Tel Aviv.

DAY 7 – FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2019 – Tel Aviv – For our last day, we will have two options: The shorter distance will allow us to take an easy sightseeing bike ride through the city, The ride will take you through Tel Aviv, stopping by some of the many landmarks in the city. For the longer option, we can head to Jerusalem to see the Jewish Quarter and the Old City; then, an optional extension of the ride to head up the coast and visit the Apollonia Crusader fortress.  After returning to the hotel, and taking some time to rest, we will head for a fabulous dinner in Jaffa as we prepare our final toast to a great week!
