2011 FIDF Michigan Gala Dinner – An evening of Spirit and Inspiration
The Annual Gala Dinner of the Michigan Chapter was held on October 25, 2011 and brought together more than 700 of Metro-Detroit’s community leaders and philanthropists to pay tribute to the young men and women who defend the State of Israel, serving in far-flung locations all around Israel and honored the legacy of Steven Zack z”l.
Andrew Hiller, one of the Michigan Chapter’s young leadership members, delivered a speech about his recent IDF Young Leadership Mission to Israel with 16 of his closest friends. Before he introduced the guest speaker he announced, “I was able to meet young men and women whose drive and commitment to Israel is so strong that it inspired me to request to make this introduction and voice my support.”
The evening was highlighted by an inspirational and moving speech delivered by Lieutenant Seva, an immigrant to Israel who chose to forego the 2008 Olympic Games in order to enlist in the IDF. He recounted his experience in the IDF including his injuries in battle which left him paralyzed. Lieutenant Seva’s inspirational and emotional story and his struggles left the audience in awe of his strength, determination, commitment and love for Israel and the Jewish people.
Rick Kovacs, Executive Board member and a close friend of the Zack family closed the evening with a passionate appeal to show our IDF soldiers our love and support.
Rick Bloom, Michigan Chapter’s Treasurer concluded the event by saying: “The Michigan Chapter’s annual dinner, once again, accomplished its goal of not only raising money and awareness for such programs as the impact program but also, to strengthen and grow that special relationship between Metro Detroiters and the brave men and women of the IDF”.
The evening provided a memorable opportunity for our Michigan community to pay tribute to the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces.
