Ohio Gala Dinner - September 7, 2011
On September 7, 2011, over 500 supporters of Friends of the IDF Ohio Chapter gathered at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven to show the Cleveland community’s support of the organization and to honor the Weiss Family. The evening provided Cleveland community the opportunity to honor the soldiers of the IDF, celebrate the outstanding commitment of the Weiss family, and demonstrate to the Cleveland community the role that FIDF plays.
We were proud to honor the Weiss family, Morry and Judy Weiss, along with their children, Gary and Hildee, Jeffrey and Karen, Zev and Rachel, and Elie and Sara, and grandchildren. This is a family that ceaselessly works for Jewish unity and continuity in Cleveland, as well as globally. In honoring them on this special evening, we demonstrated our appreciation of their dedication and commitment to the brave young men and women of the IDF, the State of Israel, and the entire Jewish community.
The attendees listened to a moving speech by Captain Ori Ron, Company Commander in the Combat Engineering Corps. Cap. Ron took part in the Cast Lead operation, and the second Lebanon War, which he was injured twice. After receiving initial treatment for his first injury, he escaped from the hospital and came back to the field to be with his soldiers. This time he wasn’t so lucky and was badly injured.
A special highlight was the remarks made by Captain Peter Reisman, a Cleveland native, and distinguished attorney, who made Aliyah and became a member of the IDF at the Military Advocate General’s Corps. His moving remarks about his experiences and the importance of IDF and FIDF were compelling.
During the event the supporters enjoyed an amazing musical presentation by the IDF Chief Cantor, Lt. Col. Shai Abramson and the Rabbinate Ensemble. The music provided an uplifting and most enjoyable evening.
