Night of Unity brings together Community in Support
This summer, as a response to the incredibly challenging conflict that Israel faced, the self-proclaimed “Team Israel,” comprised of Sara & David Bergstein, Galit & Tamir Cohen, Diana & Alan Dabach, Lisa & Peyman Golshani, Yael & Tal Rubin, and Lisa & Hillel Sperling decided they could not sit idly by as the safety of Israel and its people was relentlessly threatened and attacked. On August 7, 2014, in a community event spearheaded by “Team Israel” and generously hosted at the home of Sara & David Bergstein, over 300 people from across the San Fernando Valley gathered to stand together with the State of Israel.
The community Night of Unity honored the heroic soldiers of Operation Protective Edge and raised over $100,000 in support of the brave men and women of the IDF. The funds raised directly supported the therapy and rehabilitation for the wounded soldiers of Operation Protective Edge, many of whom face a long and difficult road to recovery.
The incredibly moving program featured a personal video address from Brig. Gen. (Res.) Dr. Danny Gold, former head of research and development at the Defense Ministry who is credited for the development of the Iron Dome anti-missile system. Powerful remarks were also provided by IDF Reservist, Izzy Ezagui, a combat soldier, who after losing his arm in battle, returned to serve in the IDF. Izzy reminded those in attendance that in times of both war and peace, Israel needs our support.
In attendance that evening were Evie and Stuart Steinberg, the parents of fallen Golani soldier, Max Steinberg (z’’l). Max, a Lone Soldier from Woodland Hills, California lost his life during Operation Protective Edge. The Night of Unity brought the community together in solidarity for the Steinberg family and the families of all of the fallen soldiers of Operation Protective Edge, the wounded soldiers returning from Gaza, the State of Israel, its people and its soldiers.
