Family Barbecue supports Lone Soldiers

Since its inception, FIDF’s Lone Soldiers Program remains dedicated to its goal of supporting thousands of IDF lone soldiers. In order to achieve its goal, FIDF helps these brave lone soldiers in the time leading up to, during, and after their military service. Additionally, FIDF sponsors flights, which enable lone soldiers to travel back to their country of origin and visit loved-ones abroad.
Every year, approximately 2,800 determined young men and women from all over the world choose to leave the comfort of their families and homes to travel to Israel, become proud IDF soldiers, and protect the Jewish homeland. There are over 2,500 lone soldiers from over 60 countries serving in the Israel Defense Forces with over 740 soldiers being from the United States.

On Sunday, September 7, 2014, FIDF Western Region Board Member and Young Leadership Co- Founder, Larry M. Schnaid, and his wife, Amy, hosted a family-friendly barbecue benefiting FIDF’s Lone Soldiers Program.

The first of its kind, the barbecue brought together young families in support of FIDF. The event was co-hosted by FIDF Western Region Vice President Simon Etehad, and his wife Malissa, Western Region Board Member Emiliano Calemzuk, and his wife Paola, and Young Leadership Co-Founder Joe Simantob, and his wife Anat. The funds raised at the event enabled 23 lone soldiers to receive sponsored flights home, so that they could visit their loved ones and receive much needed rest and respite from their army service.
