The Baltimore Chapter of the Friends of the IDF hosted the IDF Naval Ensemble on Tuesday, May 13 at Beth El Congregation. Over 375 people were in attendance and they heard a wonderful concert given by 4 talented Naval Soldiers. Accompanying them on the clarinet was Beth El’s Director of Education, Dr. Eyal Bor. Dr. Bor himself was a member of the IDF’s Army Band from 1976-1980.
The event chaired by Board members Vickie & Eugene Meyer as well as Shirley Cohen recognized Noah Abrams for his Bar-Mitzvah fundraising project. Noah organized a “Buckets for the IDF” Basketball tournament that engaged over 80 middle school students and raised $1,100 for the FIDF. He is also excited to repeat this fundraiser again in the Fall.
Also recognized were local Lone Soldier Families. Zachary Chattler, with his wife JoEllen, delivered an emotional letter written by their son Daniel who is currently serving in the IDF. The Baltimore Chapter is currently aware of about 45 Lone Soldier Families and finding more all the time. We hold monthly meetings so parents can support each other and our Chapter can be notified and welcome their soldiers when they return home.
Generously providing home hospitality were Michele & Bill Yerman, Gayle & Steven Becker as well as Cheryl & Tim Abrams. Eddie Rogers graciously volunteered as the Naval Ensemble’s Baltimore tour guide and logistical leader.
