FIDF Central Region hosted 44 legacy children
Earlier this month, the FIDF Central Region hosted 44 children of fallen IDF soldiers for the Bar/Bat Mitzvah trip of a lifetime. Through the LEGACY program, these children are able to enjoy a two week summer camp in the US alongside peers who have shared similar experiences. The children, all of whom have lost either a parent or sibling to IDF service, celebrated this passage into adulthood alongside new friends, both Israeli and American, and fun camp activities including swimming, sports, arts and crafts, and ropes course. The children were hosted by FIDF supporters in Chicago for several days before beginning the two week program at JCC Camp Chi in Lake Delton, WI on July 29th.
This trip is a unique experience for these children, one that creates lasting memories, and stays with them for many years. Shlomi Nahumson, head counselor of LEGACY, said it best: “This FIDF LEGACY journey is about fun, growth, challenge and empowerment, but mostly about delivering a loud and clear message to 44 individuals entering adulthood as they celebrate their Bar and Bat Mitzvah without the person who should have been there holding their hands, that they are not alone, not today, not in the future.”
Thank you FIDF Central for your generosity, and for such a successful program!
