Naples -Temple Shalom
On April 14, 2013 The Friends of the Israel Defense Force along with organizations from all over Florida came together for a community festival at Temple Shalom, in Naples. With over 200 families in attendance the event was a huge success! Israeli music, dance, food and activities were highlighted in celebration of Israel’s 65th Anniversary.
Yom Ha’atzmaut “IDF Bootcamp”
On Monday April 15, 2013, The Friends of the IDF Greater Miami Chapter (FIDF) took part in a huge community affair for Yom Hazikaron, and Yom Ha’ atzmaut at the Michael-Anne Russell JCC in North Miami. Yom Hazikaron traditionally is a day that remembers the soldiers in the IDF who have fallen in battle, and Yom Ha’atzmaut is Israel’s Independence Day

2013 Miami Solidarity Gala Dinner
On February 28, 2013, closed to 1,000 prominent business and philanthropic leaders from South Florida gathered at the Westin Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida for the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) Greater Miami Solidarity Gala raising $2.5 million for the wellbeing of the IDF soldiers.

FIDF Greater Miami Tu B'Shvat 2013 Party
On Sunday, January 27, 2013, the Friends of the IDF, Greater Miami Chapter participated in a Jewish community fair at TY Park in Hollywood, Florida in celebration of Tu B’shvat. Tu B’shvat is also known as "Rosh HaShanah La'Ilanot", or the "New Year of the Trees.” The day is celebrated to broaden ecological awareness and as a result, trees were planted in celebration.

Yom L’Chayal for the second year in a row was kicked off in the Orlando community, at Congregation Ohev Shalom. This year the soldiers put on a touching Hanukkah performance.

2012 Raffle Drawing
The Florida Friends of the IDF kicked off the new year with its annual raffle drawing, where Judy Abrams of Miami Beach took home the grand prize of two free airline tickets to Israel. Long time volunteer, Abe Oberlender, was there to help us pull the winning ticket.

Lone Soldier’s Mother Speaks at Parlor Meeting
The Greater Miami Chapter board member Dr. Ann Ballen opened up her Kendall home to host the first parlor meeting of the season. About 40 guests gathered to hear speaker Sandra Sterling, the mother of a Lone Soldier, share her experiences growing up in El Salvador and discovering her Jewish identity.

Governor Rick Scott Participates in Florida Jewish Symposium
Over 100 active lay and professional Jewish leaders gathered in Boca Raton, Florida on Monday, June 11 to participate in an interactive dialogue at the 2nd Florida Jewish Symposium. The symposium, hosted by the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach, addressed important issues concerning the Florida Jewish Community and Internal Community relations.

Gilad Shalit Visits Miami
Gilad Shalit, the IDF soldier released last October after five years of captivity by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, visited Miami this June to cover the NBA Finals as part of his new position as a sports columnist for the Israeli daily newspaper Yediot Achronot.
