An Evening of Celebration at the FIDF Annual Community Event in Connecticut
Yesterday, over 130 community members gathered in celebration and support of Israel's soldiers at the first FIDF Annual Community Event in Connecticut. The evening, held at the Stamford Marriott Hotel, was filled with poignant remarks, emotional moments and overwhelming passion for Israel's soldiers.
We were honored to have in attendance a very special and distinguished guest of honor, Avi Dichter (Chairman of the Foundation for the Benefit of Holocaust Victims in Israel, Former Shin Bet Director, Minister of Internal Security and Minister of Home Front Defense), who spent his life serving his country and shared with the crowd his wisdom and insight into the current political situation in Israel. Community leader and a supporter of FIDF, Alan Phillips, served as the Master of Ceremonies.
Guests were moved by the stories of the soldiers who recently returned from the frontlines of Operation Protective Edge. From Sgt. Tal's journey from his home in Beverly Hills to the frontlines as a Lone Soldier in the Palahan Givati, to Staff Sgt. Elle's heroic route from Australia to Gaza as the only female paramedic in her battalion. Their stories of heroism, bravery and commitment moved us and are a source of pride and inspiration to continue the important work of FIDF. Lastly, we hope you enjoyed the beautiful sounds of the IDF Ensemble, a talented group of soldiers whose work does so much to raise spirits off the frontlines.
"I don't think people can understand how grateful we were for everything. I'd like to just say thank-you. Thank-you from all the IDF soldiers who have benefited from your amazing organization and generosity in one way or another. Even from afar, your making such a difference to the soldiers who are protecting our beautiful little country." - Staff Sgt. Elle
A special thank you to our dedicated committee whose efforts ensured that our evening was a success for our community, and more importantly, for our soldiers. You are an inspiration for us all.
While the evening was a great success, the challenges faced by Israel's soldiers are ever growing. If you wish to take part in the efforts of the Westchester/Connecticut Chapter, we encourage you to click here to make a donation.
